HOW TO: Stay Cool on A Hot Summer Day
By Vicky Lin
It's officially the middle of summer and you're starting to feel the heat getting to you. Whether you're on the East or the West Coast, the summer heat never seems to leave and you're desperate to cool off.
So what can you do? How can you stay ahead and beat the heat wave?
Drink A Lot of Water
Staying hydrated is the most important thing you can do on a hot summer day. We recommend drinking between three to five glasses of water, and don't just drink when you're thirsty, drink every hour!
Eat Something Cold
Nothing feels better than licking a popsicle or eating a spoonful of shaved ice on a nice sunny day. Treat yourself and cool down!
Wear Light Colored Clothing
Remember, black absorbs heat. So choose your outfits wisely — try for summery and lighter colors like white, pastels or beige. Avoid black, navy, or forrest green if you're going out in the sun!
Soak in the Pool
If you have a pool in your backyard, what are you waiting for? Jump in for a quick swim and sip on some iced tea by the poolside!
Keep Your House Cool
Not all of us have perfectly performing air conditioning, so invest in portable fans or even hand-held fans. A cool breeze will wake you up from your mid-summer slump.
